If someone slaughters an animal in a new house to keep their home safe, should their invitation be accepted?

This is shirk. Allah Almighty protects. But if a goat is slaughtered in the name of Allah only for the feast of the guests, then it is permissible.

Is it permissible to eat the sweets of dewali sent by a Hindu friend ?
A
No, it is not permissible to eat the mithai/ sweets of dewali sent by a Hindu friend or Neighbour because this is Hindu's religion and festival, in which they give tribute or pray to their gods or goddesses. So as a Muslim, you can't eat it.
Now the thing is what do you do with it?
You can give it to any Hindu or anyone who shares the same faith. In case that’s not possible you can feed it to birds or animals.

Can we send our kids to Halloween party just as costume party for fun?

If you or your children have received a Halloween party invite, it is not recommended to go or send them because this is not in our religion and culture. It is not permissible to follow other religious festivals. Teach your children the story behind the origin of such festivals, in the past, the non-Muslims believed in the faith to call demons on Halloween which is not the faith of a Muslim.
